Paul de Rivaz

About Paul:

Determined, uncomplaining and calm under pressure

"I had read and enjoyed a number of books about epic long distance rides, such as Tschiffeley's Ride (an account of 10,000 miles in the saddle from Argentina to Washington - 1933) and Across Patagonia (Lady Florence Dixie's equine adventures in South America in the 1870s). I had mentally set myself the task of facing a great challenge every year or so, and following a 2000km drive across India last year the Mongol Derby seemed to have all the ingredients I was looking for - horses, an alien environment and an intense physical effort.  The Derby would enable me to prove to myself (and others) that age is no barrier to achievement."
